Continual Snowmaking - 11th January 2006
Big Bear Lake, Calif., Wednesday, January 11, 2006 Thanks to cold temperatures
and very low humidity, Big Bear Mountain Resorts (BBMR) has experienced ideal
snowmaking conditions over the last four days to cover the trails of Snow Summit
and Bear Mountain with light, dry snow. Constant snowmaking operations has helped
to open more terrain, deepen the snow depth and increase the amount of terrain
features in the freestyle parks just in time for the Martin Luther King holiday
weekend.
Currently, there are 18 lifts open at Big Bear Mountain Resorts, including four
high-speed quads. There are also three top-to-bottom trails open with up to
1,300 vertical feet providing terrain for all levels of skiers and snowboarders.
Plus, the freestyle terrain parks have a total of 94 features including jumps,
rails and boxes. At BBMR, one lift tickets gives visitors access to Snow Summit
and Bear Mountain, with a free shuttle running between the resorts daily.
The recent snowmaking has allowed the park staff to do a facelift on our
parks, making everything fresh and fun! stated Dan Nielsen, Asst. Park
Supervisor for Bear Mountain. We have added two 30-foot press boxes to
create a 60-foot flat-down box, brought back the 25-foot C-box, added a 20-foot
tabletop, a 15-foot four-foot-high uphill rail, an up-flat-down 36-foot box,
and we converted a kink box into a 30-foot A-frame box. With more snowmaking
to come, we foresee having extra features in Central Park and Amusement Park
runs in the next few days. The Park is the best it has been all season!
added Nielsen.
The added snow is perfect for the upcoming weekends events, including
the Burton Demo Tour Super Stop at Bear Mountain, January 14th to January 16th,
2006. The Burton Demo Tour gives any Bear Mountain guest the opportunity to
ride new 2006 Burton product for free! Theres also a free after-party
in the BoardRoom at Bear Mountain, plus a rail jam contest in The Scene on Sunday
that will award winners with Burton equipment and other great prizes.
The great snow conditions at BBMR has also allowed for the return of night
skiing and riding at Snow Summit, beginning Friday, January 13th through Sunday,
January 15th. Night skiing and riding takes place on Summit Run and Ego Trip,
and is great for anyone looking to continue their fun on the slopes until 9:30
